‘Equal rights, equal opportunity : Progress for all’. 

The line says it all. But the purpose of “Women’s Day” is to think about the kind of difference a woman/women have made in your life and the kind of progress women have made around the world and the kind of progress that can be made in future.

In today’s world, Women are achieving success and recognition in all fields, standing shoulder to shoulder with men in everything. People talk about equality of rights for men and women, but lets face it, even today discrimination between men and women is present. Equality of rights for men and women is still an illusion. Issues like dowry, domestic violence, sexual crimes, workplace inequality and reproductive rights still exist. We are seeing more and more injustice, gender bias, violence against women in our everyday life. So what do we do when issues like these crop up?

We should create more awareness and learn to stand up for ourselves and for the women around us. Women should also realise that its time they put a stop to all the injustice being done around them and voice out their views. As for all you nice men out there, stand up for the women in your life and also, if there is any injustice being done to women around you, don’t just be a silent spectator. Do something about it.

Women Empowerment is badly needed for our country to move forward. After all, you cannot expect a nation to progress with more than half of its people falling behind. It takes an ’empowered’ woman to build an healthy family and only healthy families build a prosperous society.

Today I am what I am, because of one such woman, my mother. She is my best friend, my mentor, my everything. The values and principles she has instilled in me has made me the person I am today. She has been with me through all my ups and downs. The only person who knows me inside out, knows what I am thinking even without me telling it aloud. Although, sometimes the idea of your mother being able to read your mind can get you into trouble. 😀 But still, the kind of sacrifices my mother has made to bring us up is immeasurable. Such is the selfless love a mother, a woman gives.

Women have the right to live in dignity, have the freedom to do whatever they want, pursue all their goals and dreams. So on this International Women’s Day, lets rededicate ourselves to making that a reality. So Ladies, go out there and conquer the world. Wishing all you beautiful women a very “Happy Women’s Day!!” 🙂
